Celebrate a quarter century of community at the 25th Annual Apple Harvest Festival, held 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 1 at Albemarle CiderWorks.

This event is a long-standing partnership between Albemarle CiderWorks, the Cove Garden Ruritans, and Vintage Virginia Apples. Admission is free and open to all, with no tickets required. Guests are encouraged to bring cash for classic festival favorites, including mountainside hayrides, and the Brunswick stew and apple butter cooked over open flames by the Ruritans

Live music will fill the orchard throughout the day, featuring performances by Cville Jazz Congregation, Small Town Rodeo, and Tara Mills. Visitors are invited to bring picnic blankets to relax on the lawn or browse goods from more than 30 local makers and artisans.

Highlights & Demonstrations include:

  • Heirloom apple tastings
  • Cider pressing demos, using an antique press (by Cidermaker David Timmerman)
  • “Making the Perfect Pie Crust” demo (by Chef Rachel Willis of “Cakes by Rachel”)
  • a Jam-Making demo (by Daniel Perry, of Jam According to Daniel)
  • “Cool Weather Gardening: Fall into Spring” (by plant-expert Margaret Shelton)

Bakers of all ages seeking a challenge are invited to enter the Apple Pie Bake-Off, a favorite tradition that supports the local community. Pies will be judged by a panel of local experts and then sold by the slice by the Ruritans to raise funds for their philanthropic initiatives. This year’s competition theme will be a classic apple pie (crust on top and bottom with apple filling), which should be submitted no later than 11am on the day of the festival in the event tent (with a copy of the pies ingredients listed).

The Albemarle CiderWorks Tasting Room will also be open, offering guests the chance to sample award-winning dry style ciders crafted from over 250 varieties of estate and locally grown apples
